Businesses invest billions of dollars into marketing, but adult content creators have a unique market. The best way to start is by knowing your audience. Adult content is niche, so your strategies have to be precise. You also have community guidelines to follow, which can be tricky when speaking openly about “spicy” content.
It sounds obvious, but once you really know your audience, you can start to hit those niche marketing necessities. Collecting information about the clients you already have can tell you what you need to do to get more of them — and retain the ones you’ve got.
How do you get this information? Just ask — creatively. Think about the number of surveys you get asked to do after buying a product or using a service. Your inbox is probably full of requests stating that “it just takes 5 minutes” to share your thoughts.
While that may be true, email campaigns aren’t standard for adult content creators. However, social media probably has what you need.
Fans like to know their favorite content creators, or at least feel like they do. This doesn’t mean you have to spill your life story all over the internet, but you can use the same techniques to learn about your audience.
According to Sex Work CEO’s State of the Creator survey, 97% of creators found their fans using X. So, use what you’re already doing to get some new intel. Create polls asking people what they’d like to see next. Maybe there are a few new areas you want to dabble in. Asking your fans what they want to see could make it worthwhile for both of you — you get the dollars and they get a pretty cool experience helping decide what comes next.
You can take that same approach and apply it to other platforms, just make sure you do it in a way that makes sense. Adding images to polls will help translate to Instagram, but you’d want to make that a video for TikTok. Knowing your platform’s strengths will help drive the method you use to gather information.
Similarly, platforms change algorithms, meaning you may have to adjust your strategy. If you notice a drop in subscribers or views, take that as a sign to pivot. Study your current strategy, hashtags you use, and any trends to find ways to adjust to the new environment.
As a creator, you know content is king. A huge tool will be knowing how to use search engine optimization (SEO). The market is competitive, so ensuring your business pops up on the first page of Google will give you a head start. You can learn SEO for yourself, then use your social media to find the best keywords.
