One of the perks of services like OnlyFans is that fans feel they’re engaging directly with creators, but creators have started relying on generative AI and chat services to tend to a lot of the messaging.
This is beneficial with simple, repeated messages. Things like and initial welcome message or sending contract drafts probably don’t need much differentiation. But adult chatters can get into nuanced conversations with their subscribers, leaving much to be desired from chatbot offerings.
People can tell when AI has written something. The first thing to remember is that these AI services are built by humans and based on the information fed to the AI by those humans. Human biases and preferences are inadvertently built in and sometimes AI will straight up just make things up.
On the one hand, it’s helpful to get quick, basic information across, but it certainly isn’t creative. This is remedied by getting specific and asking for revised prompts, but information needs to be fact checked and at least run through a plagiarism detector.
After all of that is done, you probably spent the same amount of time revising AI answers as it would have taken for you to do the chat yourself.
It’s no secret that creators are using AI like this, and it puts you in a unique position to set yourself apart from the rest. The market is competitive and overflowing with options. Selling your chats as truly personalized sets you apart from the hundreds who are relying on AI.
There’s nothing wrong with using every tool at your disposal—if AI works for your business model, then use it—but the quality of what you provide must be top-tier to remain competitive and interesting to subscribers.
There are a lot of people who think adult content creation in any form is easy. Hearing that providers are using AI or outsourcing to chat only adds to the misconception, but that certainly doesn’t mean you should avoid it.
The quality of your service is what matters the most. If you can get quality chats from AI, might as well lighten your workload. There are plenty of ways to use AI to streamline your work, especially for the administrative tasks that come with running a business.
It’s important to remember what you’re selling. You aren’t selling a dating RPG with pre-set answers—you’re selling yourself. That’s what subscribers are expecting and will start to notice quality differences if they haven’t already.
Content creators who use social media to engage with their communities need to have a solid tone and voice for their work personas. You’ll need that consistency between public-facing content and chat content, and that kind of nuance is tricky for AI.
Of course, AI is learning and gets better over time, but there really is no substitute for another human being. Connection is key, and AI can’t replace that (yet).
